Norway is a country located in Northern Europe on the northern and western parts of the Scandinavian majority of the country borders water, including the Skagerrak inlet to the south, the North Sea to the southwest, the North Atlantic Ocean (Norwegian Sea) to the west, and the Barents Sea to the north. It has a land border with Sweden to the east and a shorter border with Finland. Macro-algae is increasingly gaining attention as a potential feedstock for biofuels and as a potential alternative fuel for aviation. Technological aspects are showing promise, and being examined more widely. This paper uses a strategic management perspective to complete an initial macro-environmental scan of the potential opportunities and threats to a seaweed biofuels industry.

The aquaculture sector in northern Norway is being hit hard by an algae bloom, according to a 16 May statement from Norway’s Directorate of Fisheries. The algae bloom is affecting the waters between Nordland and south of Troms, an area of about kilometers of coastline. “Dead fish are registered at some sites, some hit harder than others. the introduced brown algae in the North Atlantic dnd outlines the establishment of Undaria in the UK. INTRODUCTION The introduction of marine species into new, distant coastal regions as a result, di- rectly or indirectly, of human activity is now commonplace and there are few regions in.

Abstract. There has been a rapid development of red algal mariculture during recent years (Hansen et al. ).Seaweed biomass conversion to fuels, and the use of red algae for nutrient-scrubbing purposes, are new applications in addition to the traditional utilization as a source for phycocolloids and for by: About this book.

In the marine environment, single-celled, microscopic, plant-like organisms naturally occur in the well-lit surface layer of any body of water. These organisms, referred to as phytoplankton or microalgae, form the base of the food web upon which nearly all other marine organisms depend.

Algal bloom is a rapid increase in or accumulation of the population of about species of algae due. Subscribe to this collection to receive daily e-mail notification of new additions Recent Submissions.

In marine ecosystems, rising atmospheric CO2 and climate change are associated with concurrent shifts in temperature, circulation, stratification, nutrient input, oxygen content, and ocean acidification, with potentially wide-ranging biological effects.

Population-level shifts are occurring because of physiological intolerance to new environments, altered dispersal patterns, and changes in. Purchase Proceedings of the Fifth International Seaweed Symposium, Halifax, August 25–28, - 1st Edition.
